PechaKucha Night Dubai returns for its 12th edition tomorrow night at Satellite, the artist space run by Traffic. More info on tomorrow’s lineup after the jump.

After a month long hiatus for Ramadan, Dubai’s art season is back in full swing next week with a head spinning number of openings. The highlight for me is undoubtedly the return of Moroccan superstar Hassan Hajjaj to The Third Line. His show ‘My Rock Stars: Volume 1’ will showcase new portraits taken at hastily put together pop-up studios on the streets of Morocco, London, Paris and Kuwait.
Last night was the opening of ‘Relate To The Matter As I Drop The Bomb‘, a solo show by Dubai-based artist (anarchist) UBIK. discoballbreaker indulged in all of the night’s delights – including cheese burgers, ice cream and DIY photocopy prints.

If you live in Dubai, head to The Jam Jar this evening for the opening of Muqtanayati : One Hundred Treasures, an exhibition of 100 objects donated by residents of the U.A.E. Reasons you should go :

Previewing tonight at The Third Line is ‘I.U.[Heart]‘, a group show featuring the Iranian artists Mahmoud Bakhshi, Shahab Foutouhi, Arash Hanaei, Mamali Shafahi and Vahid Sharifian. Each of these young artists grew up after the 1979 revolution and it is their complicated relationship with the Iran of yesterday and tomorrow that is at the heart of the exhibition.

“What happens to the values of a work of art as it’s value rises and falls?” asks art curator and write Shumon Bassar in the intro to “Value Added” by Abbas Akhavan. Good question.

‘Eye Love You’ (by Iranian artist Shirin Aliabadi) is made up of numerous drawings, splashed with colour and glitter, and pulsing with the giddy optimism of a young school girl. For the show’s music, I looked at beautiful women singing about their loves and lives. Sparkling musicians like Joanna Newsom and Fiona Apple, emotive performers like tUnE-yArDs and Scout Niblett, and my personal favourites – Electrelane.
